Y'all really thought that the year would end without me writing to you?
Lolβ¦ I thought so too, thatβs why the rest of this newsletter is going to be a disaster (I hope not)
This year is one confusing year⦠In my mind, I did nothing but in reality, I did a lot.
Published 76 podcast episodes
Registered Nascent as a non-profit
Started 2 masters degrees
Started this weekly newsletter
Got my podcast listened to 21k times across all platforms and also had it featured on a blog
Started getting paid for writing ( I write admission essays aka personal statements for people applying for schools abroad⦠see samples here)
Itβs easy to forget all these and wallow in the sad pit of Things I Wish I Did, And thatβs one thing I want to change next year. I just want to think, plan, execute and count my blessings. There will be no space in my memory to store regrets, wishes and mistakes.
I think I said it better on WhatsApp ππ½
My other goals for the new year are
Read more books. It just occurred to me I read no single book last year. I listened to every song and watched every movie but read nothing? My 18-year-old self will be disappointed why my 7-year-old self will cover her face in shame because this present Toby is disappointing.
Buy podcast gadgets and equipment and set up my podcast studio. The achievement of this goal is going to be spread throughout the year. Iβll plan to buy the gadget in bits, as much as my savings can buy at a time. Then at the end of the year, Iβll take them back to Awka and set up.
Record and edit 2 podcast episodes per week. Iβm currently producing and hosting two podcasts My name is Toby & Nascent Conversations, will most likely start a third one for NAPE-YP. I have to plan the production in such a way that I'm consistent with all of them without being overwhelmed and two episodes per week seem perfect.
Write every day. This is one tough goal that I'm not sure I'll be able to follow through (omo, I have to be honest) Writing is hardddddd and the best way to get better at it is to do it regularly hence, this goal.
Take more online courses. Omo mehn, online courses are another thing I wish I had done more of this year. In fact, how I skipped it is what I'm wondering about. Thatβs why Iβm being intentional in 2022. Iβve already pre-registered for a few: Audio storytelling by National Geographic, McKensey Accelerate and Waste to Energy Conversion.
Apply for more admissions and scholarships. Do I need to explain this one further? I donβt think so.
Work. Of course, Iβll take on more writing jobs to earn money to buy podcast gadgets but I also need a job job, a go-to-work-at-eight-and-leave-by-six-even-though-my-employment-letter-says-to-close-at-four kind of job. If Iβm to continue as a professional and build a career, I need these experiences and it's better to go at it now than later.
Finally, Learn how to trade crypto. I know I'm late to the partyβ¦ donβt laugh. Iβll bide my time and learn regardless. I already got two tutorials.
I decided to share these goals for accountability. Now that you know about it, Iβll be gingered to see them through successfully. A little part of me hopes that you will also take on some of these goals for next year too.
If you will, let me know which ones. If you have already set out goals or new year resolutions for yourself, Iβd like to hear them also. Just don't stay goalless!!!
